How to use Deep Research in Google Gemini

Deep Research explores complex topics on your behalf and presents its findings in a comprehensive, easy-to-read report.

What you need

  • For now, this feature isn’t available to users under 18.

  • To use this feature, you must be signed in to Gemini Apps.

Limits of Deep Research

Deep Research Models: All users can use Gemini 2.5 Flash for their reports.

Deep Research Limits: 

  • Limited daily research requests

  • Limited number of research requests you can run at the same time

  • Learn more about limits

If you’re close to your limit, Gemini Apps notifies you how many research requests are left for the day.

Start a Deep Research report

  1. Go to gemini.google.com.

  2. In the text box at the bottom, enter a question or prompt that explains what you want to research.

  3. Below the text box, click Deep Research (globe button) >  Submit.

  4. Optional: To upload files or an image with your prompt, click Add files.

  1. Click Start research

  • Gemini creates a research plan for your topic.

  • To update the research plan before you create a report, click Edit plan.

  1. When your report is ready, click View report.

Tips for Using Deep Research

 

  • It usually takes about 5-10 minutes to generate the report since Gemini analyzes many sources. For more complex reports, it may take longer.

  • While you wait for the report, you can leave the chat. When it’s ready, Gemini will notify you:

    • In the web app: Next to the chat thread with your completed report.

    • In the mobile app: As a notification on your device. The notification may appear when your device is locked depending on your settings.

Find your research reports

Important: You can only find past research reports if your Gemini Apps Activity is on. Learn how to manage Gemini Apps activity.

  1. Go to gemini.google.com.

  2. If your chats are hidden, at the top, click the hamburger menu in the top left of the Gemini app.

  3. Under “Recent,” find your research chat.

Listen to your research report

  1. Go to gemini.google.com.

  2. If your chats are hidden, at the top, click the hamburger menu in the top left of the Gemini app.

  3. Under “Recent,” select the chat with your research report.

  4. On the right in the Canvas panel, click Create > Audio Overview.

Visualize your research report

  1. Go to gemini.google.com.

  2. If your chats are hidden, at the top, click the hamburger menu in the top left of the Gemini app.

  3. Under “Recent,” select the chat with your research report.

  4. On the right in the Canvas panel, click Create.

  5. To create a custom visualization based on the report, enter the description as a prompt in the text box.

Share, export, or copy your research report

  1. Go to gemini.google.com.

  2. If your chats are hidden, at the top, click the hamburger menu in the top left of the Gemini app.

  3. Under “Recent,” select the chat with your research report.

  4. On the right in the Canvas panel, click Share & export.

  5. Select how you want to share or export the report. 

  • To share the report, click Share Canvas.

  • To export the report, click Export to Docs.

  • To copy the report text, click Copy Contents.
